UPDATE:
This offer ended in December of 2009 - but you can check in with Guest Relations to get a Birthday button that will get plenty of well wishes from cast members and the occasional special magic.
I’ve been seeing the TV commercials that the folks at Disney started airing on September 18, 2008.
So I looked up details about the Free Disney Ticket On Your Birthday special online.
Looks good to me! No catches that I can see… other than the fact that you’ll be obligated to buy a full-price ticket for anyone who accompanies you on your visit to either Disney World in Orlando or Disneyland in California. But that’s to be expected. Plus, it’s only good on your actual birthday in 2009.
Jim and I both signed up for a free ticket at each of the different parks on each of our birthdays. Who knows if we’ll actually be able to get away when the time comes (Mar 2 and Nov 14), but it’s worth considering, if you ask me.
You’re allowed to sign up all your kids. May as well encourage your closest friends and relatives to sign up too! It’s only 3 very simple steps. And no, you don’t have to sign up for their optional “birthday club”. We didn’t.
Our Free Tickets
Jim signed up for the free ticket from Orlando’s Walt Disney World — because who doesn’t want to be enjoying warm sunny Florida in the late winter / early spring months?
I signed up for the free ticket from California’s Disneyland — because chances are fairly high that we’ll already be out west for other reasons during that time of year. Here’s to hoping we’ll be able to squeeze in a side trip to Disneyland while we’re there!
Which Is Better… Disney World Or Disneyland?
We’ve both been to Disney World before. I lived in Orlando for 6 years before we got married and moved to Pensacola, FL… then later to Nashville. And I still long to be a kid at Disney World again. No matter how many times you’ve been, there’s always something new to discover and fun things to do for kids of all ages at Disney World.
Neither of us has ever been to Disneyland in California. It will be exciting to see what is different and how the 2 parks compare. (I’ve heard that Disney World is better than Disneyland.)

As a lifelong traveler, I like to help people find unique ways to do things that will save time & money — so I write about "outside the box" Travel Hacks that most wouldn't think of. I'm SUPER organized and I love to pack! I've lived in 6 different states (Florida, Indiana, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas) and have visited every other state in the U.S. — except Hawaii. (Can you say bucket list?) I've been on several different cruises, airplanes, and boats in my life and I currently enjoy the outdoors by bicycling, motorcycling, Jeeping, RVing, camping, or just walking my dogs. My favorite "hobby" is riding on the back of our Harley-Davidson Road Glide traveling cross country — which we usually do at least once each year. We even rode from Tennessee to Alaska once! When I'm not on the road, you will find me at the corner of Good News & Fun Times as publisher of The Fun Times Guide (32 fun & helpful websites).
